Porsche Cayenne S brief review

Been driving this the last few days. Feels similar in performance to my old S8, although the seats are not anything like as comfortable as the D2 or D3 and steering-wheel very skinny. Interior finish of dash material looks cheap and overall not impressed.

I have to disagree. Despite other problems, the finish and quality of engineering of my Boxster would very good, made it relatively easy to DIY the work needed.

Cayenne is a different beast of course, but I'd have one without a moment's pause. There are a couple of issues with that V8 engine though, couple of jobs that need doing to avert long term pain.

Cayenne is indeed different ;)

I bet it sounds the bollocks :-)

Not really, no. Sounds much like the audi V8 when you pin it.

I owned a Cayenne S for three and a half years, plenty of power and surprisingly capable on the twisties for a two and a half tonne car. Especially if you have air suspension and your in sports mode. But they are very high maintenance, especially the engine and gearbox. During the time I owned mine I spent over £6000. First the valve body in the gearbox gave up and had to be overhauled, then the cylinder walls in the engine disintegrated which meant I had to remove it and completely rebuild it including having the cylinder block re sleeved! All on a car that had only covered 68k. I own a workshop and did all the work so the bill could have been much worse. Early models are plagued with problems, I learned so much with mine I now have several customers on my books with them. All in all not a patch on the quality if an 8.

Interesting. This has covered only 26k (56plate) so hopefully will not prove too troublesome yet !!
