Cracked coolant reservoir

Recently I went to Audi to buy parts needed for replacement of oil retaining valves under the manifold and I thought, me being me, an@l about the look of the engine bay, I will refresh the engine oil filler cap :D

When I went to change the cap I've noticed coolant ''all over'' the immaculate engine bay and believe or not this bothered me more than a coolant level below the minimum
Not all over but enough of it to make me upset. pictures where taken after a quick wipe over already

Anyway, I was puzzled as I couldn't understand where it was coming from. After few minutes of looking around I've noticed a little crack in a unusual place as I'm 100% sure that this part wasn't under any abnormal stress.

So I went the picked new coolant bottle and new blue filler cap as well to complete the new filler cap mod

After all possible discounts and around £50 later I've had all I needed.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, sod them filler caps, what a difference new reservoir makes +++
Yes I am happy that leak is gone, but the ''new look'' of the engine bay makes me even happier, actually very happy.

I have used a vet vac to stop any spillages in areas which I could not reach to clean  and 20 minutes later it was all done and fresh looking again.

My advice, if you are not looking under the bonnet as often as me, do look sometimes because this can happen to anyone and parts are only next day delivery. If you head off for a long trip over the weekend with this hidden problem which could get even worst then you may have a pretty bad day or three

Marcin, your engine bay always looks fantastic. Looks much better now without the discoloured coolant reservoir.

Common failure point, I had 2 crack in the same place on D2 and I think somebody else reported it on D2 as well, could have been Dezzy.

I've had a D3 one go there as well - seems really common

hmm... my D2 has a very slow and unexplained coolant leak. I think some detailed investigations are in order :)
