How to separate new door clips for install?

Ready to properly secure my door panel, finally got the right parts. Clips come assembled in one piece, I assume I want to put the female part of the clip into the door first, yes? If so, they really don't want to come apart and don't want to damage them... what's the best way to separate these for installation? Those expanding door panel clips maybe? Thanks

You don't separate them. Slot the square bit in to the door card and then knock the round end in to the door as you're putting the card on. Make sure you've got the remains of the old ones out of the door first of course.

This is why they generally break when you take the door cards off and you need a load of new ones to refit.

Though I noticed when I was replacing my rear window a while back that someone had taken the card off previously and used a different design of clip that didn't break and seemed to be just as secure.
(Note to self - next time take some pictures for reference :o )

Yes, reusable clips would be great. I knew it was possible, just need to be willing to spend some time experimenting.
