Mmi control knob
Hi chaps ,the mm I control knob is looking worse the wear,is it possible to get an original one at a reasonable price or is there a good quality replica and how does it come off ,any help would be appreciated

When you say it's looking worse for wear, is it the silver knob itself or the black centre part on top. If the latter, I'm seen several posts saying that you can just peel it off and there's another layer below it (can't verify that though). If it's the former, then check out the following links...
Photos of underside of MMI unit with instructions on how to remove. Link is to that actual post within the overall thread: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-.../#post24413071 A post on how to remove the knob. Thanks Sean it's just the top black bit ,i'll have a go at the pealing ist to see if it works as I've nothing to loose ,on a different matter i want to check the manifold flaps and carbon deposit and gearbox oil change and a few other maintainance jobs ( car has 84 k on it ) do you know any specialist local to us that is experienced at working on the v10 ,i know several good outfits but I'm afraid they don't have experience of these and I'm afraid they could end up causing problems

I don't know any, but if you use Facebook, you could join the 'Northern Ireland Audi Owners Club (NIAOC)' group. I don't know any of them with a D3 S8 but there are others who have R8s and RS6s (possibly with the V10s) that might have suggestions.
I'll post a message on there today and see if anyone responds. EDIT: Got a response already. 'Audi Specialist Repairs' based in Craigavon. Owned by an Audi Master Technician. If you don't do Facebook, phone number is (028) 4062 3366. |
Thanks Sean I'll contact that chap as craigavon is handy for me

My MMI knob had an issue with the black part peeling. Investigation revealed this to be just the rubber top coating, and removing that left the knob perfect. Nothing technical here, just a fingernail

I'll give the pealing a try and if it doesn't work I'll buy a new knob ,i definitely like the idea of an upgrade to the s8+( if the new knob didn't end up pleasing me) , but unfortunately I don't think my budget would with stand that amount of abuse

Thank boys knob pealed very easily and then gave it a clean and its perfect

Does anyone have a recommended source for a replacement MMI volume control knob? The foil on my own one was slightly damaged and was catching my finger so I pulled it off completely with the intention of getting a complete replacement. I've looked online and see that there's a wide variety in prices. Has anyone replaced theirs?
