HP Instant Ink deal

I will start with a bit of back story. I had HP multifuntion printer in the past and at one point I needed to print out a lot off stuff which mostly needed only to be monochrome and to keep using inkjet was not economical so I bought old HP LaserJet 4050 and recycled toner cartridge for it which worked out a lot cheaper per page. Since then inkjet was getting little use so nozzles in the cartridge were drying out and getting clogged up. At the end I just gave up and only used it as scanner. Recently the PSU for it gave up and I needed a new scanner but as the standalone scanners are usually more expensive than entry level mutifunctions I was looking at another printer.

After exploring several options I ended up with this: http://www.argos.co.uk/product/6558769 which I consider to be decent entry level printer and it comes with 4 months free Instant Ink trial offer. So how it works is you sign up for a certain page count per month at fixed cost and the printer let's HP know when you are running out of ink and orders some more for you. The first 4 months are free and I got another month by friend referral (I am happy to referral for anybody if needed) and friend got a month free as well and another month using promo code 'freeink' but the codes do expire and change. There have been promo codes in the past for 3,6&9 months as well. You can cancel the subscription at any time and if you do it before your free period ends you do not incur any costs. I signed up for the biggest package 300 prints per month @£7.99 and now I can print 300 pages per month( I am not printing that much and I still have my LaserJet if needed for high volume), if the ink runs low there will be new cartridges automatically arriving in the post for free. I have set a reminder to cancel subscription before the free period runs out and I can probably sell the printer at the end of it for £5 or 10 and buy another again as it can still be used with regular cartridges or even if I just dump it and buy a new one it's still pretty cheap per page printed. Wife is already making plans printing 300 of old photos per month so I tasked with getting cheap photo paper. And it just happens that there are 2 lots of 150 sheets on e-bay local to be ending today:)
