After all they are visible to everyone all the time the vehicle is on the road.

There is a lot of cloning goes on sadly, and if you have a blue Audi A8 D2 and its (a) not insured or (b) not taxed or (c) no MOT or (d) nicked then the easiest thing to do is simply remove the existing number and fit one from a nice looking car that is all street legal.....

... and car for sale sites are the best place to do that as you can search for the exact model, find a plate, clone it up and away you go.

It can be viewed as prudent, or overcautious but as the OP has offered up the info to anyone that asks for it directly, I say we respect his decision.

Its a beautiful colour, and the A8 4.2 has always been my favourite pick of the D2's, but whilst the S8's are appreciating, the A8's hold far less interest so 2K might be a little stretch considering the faults, but it is a sub 100K D2, and they are very few and far between now....

The registration shown in the first listing is now officially on the car so those of you who want to check can now do so. Sorry about the delay in the transfer of the plates.

Thank you IT Administrator for your wise words, perhaps I am a little too cautious but better being safe than sorry, I must say I did not like the implied dishonesty from one of your members, but I suppose every forum has one.
I would like the car to go to an enthusiast and a friend suggest your site, I have no real idea at it's worth so as I said in the original listing give me an offer email and mobile already supplied. Now that the plate transfer has come through the car is now blocking one of my two garages and will be disposed off locally if no one is interested. I must stress that it will be sold as a DONOR car, if it could be fixed economically I would have had it done .

As a foot note I am a Audi enthusiast, have been for years now, I had a Porsche 996 for a while but I still hung onto the A8 Sport as they are a much more versatile car. I currently own a 2000 Audi TT Quattro convertible and a 2013 Audi TT BLACK EDITION TFSI Coupe both of which are great cars.

Well, the only person who used the word 'dishonest' was me, and the comment was:

I'm not accusing you of being dishonest, but your approach to selling your car doesn't reflect that.

If I thought you were dishonest, I would have come out and said it, but there was too much reluctance on your behalf to give out information, and most people would think you had something to hide.

I've been on the receiving end myself. Before the A8, I had a '01 A4 2.5 tdi. When I was selling it, I documented absolutely everything I did to the car, including using Slick 50. I was then accused of trying to sell a car with a knackered engine, simply because others use Slick 50 to hide oil leaks.

Do I think you're dishonest? I don't know you from Adam, so can't make that judgement, and I'm not a keyboard warrior. My initial response may have come across to you as an accusation, but then that's your opinion of my statement, in the same way my response was based on your statement/advert.
