Some ideas for the common faults

These are just jottings really, but it may prompt the watchful public to remind us of where info about the problems already pre exists before we re-invent the wheel by retyping it all. We'll expand and document this as time goes on.

So: common faults that we've seen through part requests over the last 18 months:

Front ABS sensors failing
Rear handbrake mechanism seizing
Gearboxes
Wet carpets from blocked HVAC drain
Wet carpets from blocked bulkhead drains
Airbag warning light due to 'passenger seat occupancy sensor'
PDC sensors
Faulty LCD digits on some 1999/2000 facelift cars
Sunroof controls / motor failing or causing random openings
Climate module bulb failures (pre facelift)
Broken rear electric aerials
Snapped armrests (pre facelift)
Stalling coming upto junctions (mainly pre face 4.2 ABZ breather pipes)
Fuel pump failure
Loss of lower front bumper grills
Loss of small trims off front wings (usually N/S due to puddles)
Failing autodipping exterior mirror glass (it goes bronzey and ulitmately useless)
Lugs snapping on the carpetted boot divider above the battery
Oil leak from final drive seal on gearbox onto left hand catalyst
Wearing front suspension arms
Rear quickclear screen not heating
'cold weather' fuel leak problem
Clicking flap motors on facelift HVAC

Any more anyone?

Aaaaaaah, so there isn't a cunning german time bomb in my dash then when I switch on the screen vents?

Can't wait to see a solution, it does rather spoil the waft on cold mornings.

I'd suggest front diff seal leaking, both of my cars have had that

Hello Ian,

You mention here: http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-...s-experts.html

"1) Heater potentiometer under passenger footwell no doubt. I guess you have a face lift car >1998 as this is a common problem. £400 from Audi to fix, but can be done DIY for sub £30 and an hour or so in effort"

Can you expand on this and let me know the parts that are needed?

I too would like to remove the ticking german bomb referred to above :)

Cheers

B
