Front breakpads
4 Attachment(s)
Hi, I am currently repairing my front breaks, and the front pads that were in have this weird thing that I haven't seen before, the service manual says they are "With mass damper and anti-squeal spring" and this is not present on my new break pads, is this even necessary and what is its purpose?
I attached pictures of how it looks, you can clearly see that this is missing on the new breakpad. I have just finished replacing the pads and disk on both my rear tires and that wen't pretty smoothly. |
Looks like the new ones have a self-adhesive backing which will stick them to the caliper. I guess that means they don't need the spring or the damper weight to stop them squeaking since the adhesive should solve that.

I think 314mm brakes had dampers to reduce noise and 323mm did not as there was not enough space if fitting 16-17" winter wheels. They are interchangeable as long as you have enough space for dampers. If itiing the ones without dampers they may squeal a bit but like MJ says adhesive backing should eliminate that.

Ok, thanks both of you for the reply. I will fit them as is and let you know if there is anything weird about it, going to be taking both of my calipers for a wash and sandblasting. They are in pretty good shape even though I have '95 model.
