driver's window wont open

Hello, hope you are all well,
I have been away for a while, I was ill for 4 months, still not recovered but getting better I think?

I am well enough to drive a bit but have one minor problem.
My driver's window won't go down. It still makes a clicking sound but no movement. All the fuses are ok, all the other windows work.
I tried swapping the plug with the rear window button in case its just the button but no joy.

Does it mean the motor has gone or is there another possibility?

Thanks!

I bought a window motor from A8 parts, may as well have it ready since I'll have to go digging in there.

Phoned Audi dealer to check new price out of curiosity, none left he says so that's it, used parts o aftermarket fro now on.

Nothing too serious I hope :)

Clicking could well be a stripped gear in the motor. There are plastic pulleys in the cable mechanism which moves the glass but that tends to make a crunchy noise when they disintegrate and the window moves a bit then gets stuck.

Most D2 parts became obsolete at 15 years old. Almost all the remaining stock went to Audi Tradition so its now very difficult to get hold of any original parts in the UK.

Thanks Mikki!
Not too serious so far :)
At the risk of talking about my medical problems like an old man, so far they found gastritis, oesophagitis and hiatus hernia, with a dash of pernicious anemia thrown in. I think its the pernicious anemia that's been the main problem, the other things I was probably carrying around for years without knowing.

I hope the window is an easy fix, although I read your other thread about the nightmare of door card removal. Not looking forward to that.

Yay! Window works again. Thanks A8 Parts for quick delivery!
It was the motor. My old motor sounds really rough when disconnected from the window gear. It still turns but something is messed up in there.
The A8 parts motor is smooth as silk in comparison.

Excellent news. +++
Out of interest what's involved in swapping the motor over, apart from obviously taking the door card off?
(I had to do it when I replaced my NSR window mechanism, but had the whole upper door frame off the car at that point so didn't have any issues accessing fixings)

Thanks! I'm so happy to have the window working again.
Its really easy, just unbolt the three silvery 6-star bolts, unplug, then yank it out. The motor unit engages the window pulleys via a big plastic pinion gear. I didn't swap the motor on its own, I swapped the whole black-cased mechanism that the motor is attached to. On closer inspection my old motor had leaked some kind of oil all over its casing so it was toast.
The motor itself has 4 smaller bolts that attach it to the mechanism but one of them is not accessible without removing the whole unit first.
Good luck hope it goes well.
