If I remove the rear boxes, will it????

Cause issues?????

If I remove the rear boxes on my a8 3.0tdi Quattro will it ruin it? Will it throw up codes and back pressure issues etc???? Just strait piping it was my idea?

What we thinking?

Sound won't improve, it will sound awful -ish and no errors from my experience when removing two small (past cats) and middle boxes and changing rear ones as well and from experience on my mate's 4.2TDi which had back boxes removed and and straight pipes through. No errors on his either

I was surprising how much louder car was after removing middle silencer and two small ones. New rear boxes thats a different story :D ....it's like a having a Mozart enclosed in a metal box playing amazing tunes all the way each journey

So you think removing the middle one aswell whilst I'm at it? I'd like to remove the dog but it's asking for trouble I imagine. Just after a clean rear end (no jokes please lol)

Wouldn't mind it being a tad louder now it looks mean I want it sounding meaner.

Would removal of the cats as well be throwing codes?

Um, not looking to offend here, but the 3.0 Tdi isn't exactly a musical masterpiece. The overwhelming majority of users on here have V8 petrol's, and they benefit from the volume being turned up. Then there's some V10 petrol's, and W12 petrol's too. Even the V8 Tdi sounds ok as its quite smooth.

The 6 cylinder diesel is about as agricultural sounding as an 8 ever gets, and the only time I had one, it was the primary reason I got rid of it.

So, please crack on, we love project cars - but just be aware you have a very tough audience when it comes to zorst notes.... +++

you could fit a "retard valve" (i love that name) and have the best of both worlds

something like this, there are lots for sale on ebay etc etc etc...

Thanks God IT put that on the table fairly quickly

I'm not meaning to offend neither, but it is not the best engine where nice exhaust tone can be achieved.

If you still want to go ahead, and you may like it as we all are different and all you may need is just something slightly different, I would recommend you to do similar thing to what I did.

I've done some little research and as far as I'm aware you dont even have a middle silencer. Cat and then back boxes next
So cut the back boxes in a smart place in case you want to weld them or clamp them back on and then just do a nice straight run from the slitter near the rear axle with some nice tail pipes.

Yeah I'm no stranger to nice exhaust systems, I had an akraprovic titanium race exhaust on my clio 200 cup car, paid £1650 for it and it was hands down the best sound ever.

But this is purely for visual and some noise. The noise the engine makes is fine as its my first diesel and all diesels sound like this really. There are loads of videos on YouTube of the 3.0tdi engine with exhaust and id have them over a v8 noise il try and find them, there's a red a5 and that sounds perfect but is a full system. Most have dpf deletes and they sound fantastic.

Almost r32 like.

But yeah just after a different tailpipe design, so il lob of the system and have a larger bore made from the furthest part forward. I won't be putting the system back on.

Super sprint do a system for it but it's just too much as I'm saving money atm or trying to lol.

I tend to disagree

Now by anyone's standard that noise is impeccable for a 3.0tdi, so it's got the scope to sound better than it does to begin with :D

I´d any day take the 3.0 tdi exhaust note before both V8:s +++
