door pull retaining clip

well thats was a frustrating day, took the door panel off to figure out why the pin was dissapearing into the door when locked, only to fail on reassembly.

the belden cable that attaches to the interior door pull has it seems a tiny metal spring clip that holds it into the lever.

or should I say, did, as it fired itself across the garage never to be seen again

i'm not talking about the U shaped one that holds the cable to the door but a tiny thing thats surrounds the cable end and holds it into the rotating assembly

anyone know if these are still available or have a part number? currently the door only opens from the outside which is frustrating as you can imagine

Is this the culprit you're referring to, number 32 in the image? If so, MJ has a thread about 3D printing them. Last I remember, it was still in development.

I remember having a similar frustrating day working on a door of one of my previous 8s. Horrible fiddly job. :(

steamship beat me to it with the part number ...

There's a link to the illustration and the rest of the part numbers here:

And a potential supplier in Belarus:

Just weld the door shut and leave the window open ...

Yeah they are NLA now. I 3D printed some prototypes but they needed a little work and then I broke the printer

I have a new printer now though so I can have another go at them +++

Seem to be in stock here:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...lip/4d0867646/
... although shipping might be more expensive than the part.

EDIT:

And here:

Markiii 4th April 2019 08:41 PM

Yep that's the bugger thanks chaps. NLA just my luck

steamship 4th April 2019 08:43 PM

I tend to look here for parts:

http://e-acca.com/index.php?page=oem...orderBy=gruppa

28 cents, and shipping 'should' be less.

good shout so cheap I've ordered 20 then I have some spare if anyone needs them

Markiii 6th April 2019 03:43 PM

Bugger order cancelled as no stock

HPsauce 6th April 2019 03:47 PM

Audi Tradition have them for €0.19 each!

But you have to find a way to get one (or more) out of them; it won't be easy. Or cheap! :tuttut:

MikkiJayne 6th April 2019 04:02 PM

Yeah they'll be £15 each by the time they get to the UK

Give A8parts a call - they can buy from Tradition through a local dealer. They suspended orders a little while ago because of the ongoing political cluster**** but since that's all delayed now they might be open again.

Worst case I'll print some.

I wasn't aware of that.

I did buy something from AT relatively recently (Door trim rubbing strip to help sort out my sons S4, now sold) using a German supplier who can buy from AT and forward to the UK. Obviously there are shipping and handling/admin charges to add but they were fair and reasonable (unlike the quote from my local Audi dealer!).

Markiii 6th April 2019 05:26 PM

Him you would think they would want to sell them, or do I miss something?

MikkiJayne 6th April 2019 06:42 PM

Audi Tradition don't want to deal with the UK at all. Prestige have been trying to get a dealer account with them for ages, but they won't play ball. Some dealerships will play ball, but most can't be bothered. Those who do put a massive markup on everything.

It all seems to be part of Audi's concerted effort to kill off all the older models. It hardly generates brand loyalty though.

HPsauce 6th April 2019 06:44 PM

Just for a laugh I just tried to order a batch direct from AT - I have an account there.
Got all the way through (as usual) but it refused payment with the standard "not PayPal" message, even though I was using a credit card....

Markiii 8th April 2019 12:01 PM

i tried and got credit card payment not available

do we have any German members?

in the mean time have emailed A8 parts

Markiii 9th April 2019 03:18 PM

interesting but ultimately useless email from audi tradition

We greatly regret the inconvenience caused to you by the selection of the payment method in the Audi Tradition Shop.
Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing a technical malfunction and credit card payment is not possible at the moment. Our technical department is already working on a solution to restore services as quickly as possible. At this moment, however, we cannot determine when payment options will be available again.
Alternatively, you have the option of contacting an authorized Audi partner or the general importer in your country. They will be happy to advise and order the required spare parts for you.
We trust this information proves helpful. Do let us know if we can be of further assistance.

MJ summed it all up.

MikkiJayne 9th April 2019 03:39 PM

Yeah they've been having that technical malfunction for the last 2 years

Markiii 9th April 2019 04:56 PM

so I asked them to give me details for a UK dealer and apparently thats too difficult to do on email they want me to call them.

your not kidding they make this difficult

Prestige have confirmed they are still having no luck getting setup after 6 months of trying

MikkiJayne 9th April 2019 06:27 PM

I'll ask a friend at Exeter audi tomorrow.

If not, I'd better get printing!

MikkiJayne 10th April 2019 03:49 PM

Method in the madness +++

Markiii 12th April 2019 08:20 AM

arrived yesterday, thanks MJ, will try them tommorow and report back

Markiii 13th April 2019 11:29 AM

well the excellent news is that they fit and they work.

if I had one observation is that you have to be careful how you fit them as they are more brittle than the metal ones, too much twisting to fit can easily snap them clean in 2.

hopefully not an issue once all fitted. At present they work fine but will report back.

thanks MJ

Markiii 14th April 2019 10:10 AM

looks like the drivers side door panels have already had these lost. how anyone managed to get them back together an the handle working without them is beyond me
