SSD Drive in MMI 3G Headunit

I was just curious.. what would happen if you were to replace the HDD in the MMI 3G headunit which i'm guessing is a PATA or SATA 2.5" hard drive with an SSD drive?

Anything like this been attempted before or maybe even installing a larger HDD other than the fitted 40GB one?

I don't know about Audi, but there's issues with BMW's. The drives get so hot you can't use normal off the shelf stuff. Likewise SSD's. Wouldn't surprise me if the same applied with our cars, space being so tight back there.
I'd love to hear otherwise. Anyone?

SSD's are smaller, and run much cooler than HDD's these days.

I was mulling this very idea over the the other day as a way to increase the jukebox space to something rather quite huge and useful....

Sometimes less is more. My 2G MMI with AMI connects up to my iPhone. I recently had over 100Gb of music on it, and it made for some quite timely searches.

I know 3G is quicker and higher res screen etc, but still, selecting music while driving via MMI can be a bit tedious.

I'm surprised the original disk is IDE and not SATA. Thats got to make finding a replacement in SSD form neigh on impossible.

My MMI 2g with AMI and running a 320GB laptop HDD is surprisingly quick at navigating folders, despite having around 200GB of music on it.

I think the iPhone interface adds some delay into the mix due to slower data throughput.

I have the music in folders, for example. to select an album by Billy Joel, I would select A-B, then Billy Joel, then the album name then the first track.

Wow, Manny.
That is how I do it but I use surname capital.
