Safety Recall 51G6 - Installing retaining plate.

Hi All,
I have received this notification this morning.
Anyone have an insight on this?
It might be only for my specific model/date.

Came across this on one of the Audi Facebook groups which had a picture of how they fixed it, and from memory it wasn't very neat looking.

Check out this thread on another forum about the recall for more information:

Thanks Shaun.
The photos from Dallas Dave highlight the exact problem.
I'll put my wellies on and have a look at mine.
They are only talking 4.0 Litre cars like mine but I think this is a watchout for all models. Maybe not as serious as mine but still a watch out.

PS Just found mine loose on the passenger side rear corner. The seal had come away from it's location for approximately ten inches.
I will contact my local Audi now for a free fix.

My D4 4.0T A8L was done in December Ray along with the MOT, it involves installation of a slightly ugly "bracket" at the back of the engine bay in case the bonnet seal decides to fall onto hot turbos and catch fire
not a great solution for the problem from Audi - how about sorting the issue with the engine seal itself rather than waiting for the seal to fall off and dealing with that fallout?? *sigh*
takes less than an hour but my car was in for a day with the MOT booked at the same time and they gave me a Q3 loan car +++

Ugh!!! An ugly bracket.
How about a DIY jobbie? Just a mild weak adhesive? Watered dow PVA perhaps.

Here's the bracket photographed. . . :(

Thanks Neil,
Not too ugly then. I am waiting on Warrington Audi to contact me.

When the alternative is 'car on fire' that's not a terrible bracket

I love your style MJ.
Just the basic truth.

Just looking at that the metal (heat-conducting) bracket is fixed to a heat shield on what may be the "hot" side. Opportunity to conduct heat directly to the seal?
