seperate instrument cluster
Hi chaps
getting the cluster out is is fairly straightforward. Separating the clocks from the front cover is easy enough However I want so separate the front perspex from the black piece with the gauge holes in it. Its not obvious and I don't want to risk breaking it. Any tips? |
If I remember correctly it's just screws and snapped together.

I think this Audi pages post shows where you how to do.

thanks but alas not it shows the rings attached from the back whilst leaving the perspex cover over the apetures in place

I'm pretty sure the clear face is plastic welded to the black surround and does not come apart. I've not looked closely at this in the D2 but all the other contemporary models are done like that.
The rings push through the holes from the back though. Why do you need to take the front apart? |
you know how CSI show superglue in a sealed bag showing up fingerprints well it seems the cluster is sealed sufficiently to achieve the same thing
I now have a misty inside of the perspex that was not there when i put it back together not to mention squeezing the chrome rings through a gap smaller than them has left them bent out of circular |
Oooh that's annoying :( I think you'll need to clean it from the inside though. I can have a look at a cluster later to confirm it is welded or not.

thanks, yes I was not happy when i got in this morning
|
the misting effect from the glue seems to be getting ever worse. I have a feeling I'm going to need a new cover
anyone have one for sale? don't need the hole cluster just the front perspex part |
I've the remains of a cluster in the garage - let me see if the front perspex is presentable
