Usual paint depth on a D2 s8 please??
Can anyone please educate me as to this?
Am I correct to be suspecting that the all aluminium construction moves the paint stage to a different place? The reason that I ask is that the s8 I am currently looking to correct has average readings of around 70mil. In the usual world of my detailing, that is alarmingly thin paint :Confused:. I do know that the car has been extensively detailed previously this year, but am uncomfortable to believe that it has been so heavily corrected and polished to this thickness?? So, what is the expected paint depth on an s8 please?? Hanks in advance, Paul +++ |
Personally I've no idea, but everyone always says the D2 paint is incredibly thick and very hard.
Could the underlying aluminium be messing with the meter? |
Paul, I do remember Mark, the detailer I use, mentioning that the paint thickness was generally thin all round but don't forget that aluminium panels don't need the same level of corrosion protection as regular steel panels so it will be thinner.
He usually does a full detailed write up but was working on the car solidly for almost 12 hours so didn't have much time to take proper pics as he usually would. www.atten2detail.co.uk is his site. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4419365&type=3 |
I can't recall the numbers but mine appeared thin according to the meter I had borrowed as well

I've got my paint depth readings across the car on a sheet at home somewhere, I'll try and find them later today if I can. +++
