Who services your S8?

My first (in my ownership) service is coming up and I've had a quote from a decent independent who is local to me. I also obtained a quote from Audi which is in line with their website

£255 minor (oil) service
£97 Pollen filter
£49 wipers

Audi will also provide a loan vehicle for the day.

Having obtained a quote from the indie, they are around £110 cheaper than Audi but I'm not sure the quote is using genuine parts but it is using OEM spec.

So, back to Audi and they said if I can get a written quote with part numbers used for genuine parts, they will match it. As the indie are unlikely to do this, Audi have knocked off £50 making it much more attractive and so I have booked in with them. They will also see if it can be reduced any more on the day. Interestingly Audi said they will match a service price providing

The garage is VAT registered
The parts used are genuine Audi
The The garage is within 15 miles of their dealership

I am interested to know who members use for their servicing? I could tackle this myself but with full history I want to maintain it

Offer the indie 20 quid to write you a ridiculously cheap quote just to take to the Audi dealer ;)

I use a few independents, but I always insist on genuine parts. It helps that the garages are also customers of mine (IT support) and that I know the owners and staff very well.

I use a local independent which has a good reputation. They advertised as being VW Audi specialists. My main dealer is just a bit too far away to make it worthwhile visiting.

Funnily enough, the service adviser told me there is one customer who saves over £100 on every service by producing an invoice/quote with all the correct parts listed and it's from a VAT registered garage. He said they have no choice but to match it but there isn't an issue as it meets their criteria.

I'll look into it when my major service is due :D

I have failed miserably to find a decent indy sice I moved back to the East Midlands. I’ve tried 3 so far, a couple on recommendation, but the car just isn’t looked after. It’s come back with mucky carpets and seats, scratched alloys, scuffed paint where they’ve leant over the car to work on it and a scratched inlet manifold that they’d used as a tool tray!

I’m hoping to get some work done by MJ in the New Year and wonder whether I might have to make that treck every time the car needs work done.

Unless someone here can recommend a decent garage in the Nottingham, Grantham, Newark, Leicester region?

I am lucky to have found a local chap who is very good, he will source parts from wherever I wish, or even let me buy my own parts. He is also what I call a "proper" mechanic, not just a fitter/replacer of parts that main dealers employ. Oh and his prices are reasonable too, as an example I sourced front and rear discs and pads (Brembo) and he charged me £60 to fit+++

That's shocking Jim, I hope you find someone suitable nearby soon

I think some garages don't understand the level of detail us car fanatics go into with our cars, we know every inch of them, every contour, but also every blemish. So when they cause a new one, it's immediately obvious to us. I hope you made them aware that their levels of customer service were poor and that they'd caused damage to your S8? Did you receive any apologies or offers to correct their misdemeanours?

I’ve asked them to take care with the wheels, specifically, and told them that I stopped going to the previous garage because of lack of care, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. And it’s pretty much impossible to prove, so I just vote with my feet.

Have you tried Nottingham Auto Technik? Steve there is very knowledgeable, ex-John Fox and they are 1/2 mile from me which means I can walk there and back. 2 mins from M1 J26. Hope they aren't one that's displeased you.
