Fark, that was close...

So, we had a mini wind event here on Thursday night.
A 115kmh systained burst ripped up "Melanie Valley" (our little valley here where our property is located, named after my missus!) For about 4 mins straight.
It was quite the event, very loud, trees swaying heavy, then "CRASH"... "THUMP" outside.
I thought it was thunder, but didn't see the flash.
Mel says "that was a tree". Didn't sound like the last tree that fell, but she was right!

(Sorry how absolutely filthy she is, especially you Mark!
I don't tend to wash her in winter - dirt road etc...)

Amazingly the S8 came through with a couple of superficial scratches.

As for the wind, its caused havoc in the hills!
One street, which I used to overlook from my old house, has had several houses badly damaged with a half dozen large gum trees falling. Several streets are still without power even today.

A close one indeed +++
Gum trees are notoriously bad (widow makers?). We had one in our garden here and on 2 occasions it shed v large branches in high winds just missing garden shed/summer house. After that it was removed before it could do any more damage.

Gum trees are famous for dropping branches.
They usually do it on still hot days without warning.
One of the lessons taught to Scouts when they go out camping is never pitch your tent under a gum tree!

Although I did mention gum trees down Kaola St (and there's one that's fallen over the Puffing Billy line opposite our driveway which they haven't cleared yet too), the tree that nearly hit the S8 (and took out 6 of the 9 corrugated sheets on the garage roof!) was an old scraggly Wattle, which as it turns out was full of termites!
It took me a day to clear it as I kept blunting the chainsaw blade on termite mud. I sharpened it 4 times and used 4 tanks of 2 stroke and 3 tanks of bar lube!

Is that an Impala? !! +++

27litres 3rd September 2020 10:32 AM

Close!
A Bel Air.

Which is pretty much an upmarket Impala anyway!
Bel Air's only had two taillights in the US, whereas the Impala's had three.
This one is an Australian delivered car with Right Hand Drive. The three light rear was used on the Bel Air in Australia to get the orange indicator lenses required under Australian design rules.
