'Telephone is not installed'
Always had my phone paired with the car in the past, I got a new phone a few months ago and just never bothered to pair it because the signal is shocking and too sketchy with the reflective glass, but I went to pair my current phone (Android Nokia) recently and got this message on the Telephone screen.
Thought a module was fried or something but get no errors relating to the phone when scanned with VCDS. Anybody seen this before or know how I can ever pair my phone again? http://i64.tinypic.com/2vakwnm.jpg |
I had this on mine when I bought the car, lift the carpet on the passenger side and open the black plastic box. Unplug the big chunky cable for a few seconds and then reconnect. Made mine work

Sounds promising.
Any idea what the 'big chunky cable' is though? |

Certainly my interpretation of that message is that it thinks the phone interface module is missing. Does it appear on the VCDS scan and can you communicate with it?

The MMI believes the module isnt installed....
Its possible, but unlikely you can talk to it via VCDS... If you can, then maybe unplugging and replugging might reset something, but I think its a long shot. Due to its location, if you have a A/C or sunroof leak, its one of the first modules to get soaked.... then people remove or loop them out rather than coughing up for a new module at Audi money... |
I managed to get a used BT Module for the RS6 for around £150 IIRC from ebay, needs the seat out to fit on mine though:( not sure on the S8

Shouldn’t be a seat out jobby, I can get to mine with it rolled back |
Are these cars OK to disconnect the batteries to or is there a chance the electrics can play up? I know they probably throw up ghost faults but that's not a problem. If they are safe to disconnect then I would perhaps try that first?
