20" wheel tyre pressures

Hi all

When I was hunting for tyres recently and ended up on the Michelin web site looking at Super Sports, I noticed that they quote tyre pressures for the vehicle. They looked a little different to what's on the label in the fuel flap so thought I'd double check them.

The Michelin site quotes 34.8psi for normal use and 46.4 for fully laden.

I looked at the car and it quotes 36psi or 2.4bar - tried a quick conversion and 2.4 bar equates to 34.8, not 36!

The full laden pressures make sense - 46 is quoted on the car and that's just under 3.2 bar, whereas 46.4 is bang on 3.2bar.

I think I'll be setting my tyre pressures in bar in future, given that's the units the Germans will have used originally! Just surprised they've got the conversion wrong :o

Is a 3% error going to make any difference? I'd doubt if pressure gauges were that accurate anyway. But I am surprised the conversion is incorrect.

It's a rounding error.. should be 2.48 bar, and someone has been lazy, just dropping the 8 rather than rounding to 2.5, or erring on the side of caution.

I tend to run mine about 40psi all round, seems to be fine.

I'm on 40 all round....mixed driving, but regularly have 2 kids and wife in car, and tanking up and down M1 at least once a week. Any less always seemed to accentuate shoulder wear, but then again, I don't hang around...

Just had the 2 pilot super sports fitted this morning....nice looking tyre.

I'm not known for my sedate driving either - maybe I should try slighter higher pressures now the alignment is spot on and see what it's like :) I'm usually one extreme of town driving on my own or loaded to the roof with racing clobber for toy cars as I was on Sunday! Had an interesting drive back on country roads with limited opportunities to clear slower traffic ;)

On my 20" final editions I'm on 40 all around too, seems to work best like zip for general use +++
