IESIS MacMillan Lecture - Car Design in the 21st Century -

The Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland ( IESIS) is a Multi-Disciplinary Engineering Institution. Their annual lecture takes place 18th Sept in Glasgow and is being given by Ian Callum Director of Design Jaguar Cars.
Ian Callum is both Scottish born and educated and is one of the world’s most acclaimed car designers. He has worked with many major car brands including Ford and Aston Martin. In 1999 Ian became Director of Design for Jaguar. His work has resulted in the transformation of the range, with award-winning designs for the XK, XF, XJ, F-TYPE and XE. In April this year Ian’s Jaguar F-PACE won the “World Car of the Year” and the “World Car Design of the Year” in New York. In addition he has just launched the Jaguar E-PACE, a compact performance SUV. One of his current major projects is the Jaguar I-PACE all electric SUV due on sale in 2018 with a projected range of 300 miles.

Ian’s thoughts on design will be of interest to engineers from all branches of the profession.

A very good presentation by a world leading car designer who has a serious back history. Some real insight into car design and its relationship with the engineering and marketing sides of a car company mainly (obviously) focused on his time at Jaguar cars.

And a good italian meal plus a few beers after with BrianG, Connor, Neil and Steve +++

Yep, excellent stuff, good spot David, and a great chance to catch up in a different , but still car-focussed, environment. Surprised (but not..;)) to hear that Callum was a Glasgow School of Art student.

Good to see you all - yes very interesting lecture, and he made a few interesting statements about upcoming cars etc which I'm sure Jaguar wouldn't have wanted him to say. I warmed to him the minute he explained that when he designed the XE he pushed until he was allowed a longer bonnet which was going to be crucial to later fitting a V8 engine in one lol :D

It was also a lovely morning the next day - thank you Glasgow!
