Finally! Reverse lights that actually work!

I've finally found a pair of LED bulbs for the S8's reversing lights that live up to the "super bright" name.
They throw enough light backwards that I can actually see to reverse in the dark.

For anyone interested, you can buy them here.

Would these be legal in the UK?

Also I guess a decent reversing camera with infra-red would also be the way to go?:)

I can't say I'm all that concerned with legality, I want to be able to see when reversing in the dark!

The last cat I had that actually threw a decent amount of light behind it was my first car!

There's no specific requirement for reversing lights at MOT prior to new registrations 1/9/2009. Basically where required after 1/9/2009 they should be white, automatically on when reverse gear selected and off when taken out of reverse, and there must be at least one.

Basically these will be fine +++

I (and others) found some decent LED options for the D2 here in the UK quite a while back.
Just can't find the thread :o but mine are pretty bright! And as Adrian points out, brightness is not a legal/MOT issue in UK.

Must have missed that one.

I've been trying out LEDs for a while. They are really hit and miss and are changing all the time.

I've always avoided the cheap and unbranded ones, as you can almost guarantee how good they will be.
I also don't see much point in upgrading tail lights and indicators, as there's no gains to be had - there's nothing gained by emitting more light, and to be Canbus friendly, they use a resistor which doesn't save on power consumption.

Having said that, my centre brake lights do have wedge type red LEDs, as with the tinted rear glass I have the light from the incandescent globes was being dimmed. To my pleasant surprise the LEDs resulted in an almost perfect luminescence match to the main brake lights. Result!

That thread was back in 2015. When I bought those ones (from AliExpress), they were around £10 a pair and still work flawlessly, so allowing for inflation £14 isn't so bad for the ones 27litres linked to.

Even better if you make an offer! I offered £12, which was accepted automatically.

I hope you find them as good as I have!
Hopefully we get good longevity too!
