Replacement Exhaust Tip

I reversed the car into a very low wall that has damaged driver side exhaust tip. I put the suspension in Lift and took a look underneath and see that the tip is spot-welded to the silencer pipe. Would it be possible for me to have the existing tip removed and a replacement spot-welded it its place? I had a look on 7zap with my VIN to see if the part is available to buy new but see that this part of the exhaust is listed on the website as coming in several different sections clamped together including the end tips being clamped onto the silencer so I'm slightly confused.

I looked at this as it’s posted on D2 fuel and exhausts. But it’s clearly not a D2 issue. Might be worth re-posting to get D3 comments?

There are two different options for the 3.0 engine, a straight pipe, part number 8K0253683J (£126) and bent pipe, part number 4E0253684S (£165). Both are shown as being clamped on. I would think for those prices you could probably get a pair of tips fitted by an exhaust centre.

Yes, that's my problem - my exhaust is nothing like what's shown on the parts diagram, it's all one piece with no clamps anywhere until you get halfway towards the front of the car. Are there any marks that should be anywhere to determine if my system is OEM?

That's pretty normal from factory it's all one piece. If part of it need to be replaced they cut it off and join with clamps.

Had the september 2006 reg 3.0tdi with downturned pipes, welded on, had them removed and custom straight pipes fitted. Currently have 4.2tdi march 2006 which had downturned not welded though, then I had straight pipes fitted. So some are welded some are not.

Ah OK...that explains what I'm looking at so. I'd been thinking had I a replacement exhaust fitted or something. Thanks.

Just to close this...

I could've got a straight (8K0253683J) off deutsche parts on special offer for £35 but they only had one. I'd prefer to replace with what was originally there anyway so I'm after striking it lucky and finding a pair of NOS downturns (4E0253684S) delivered for €35 - result!!
