calibrating pad thickness

anyone know what the settings are for the D3 S8? helpfully its not on the VCDS Wiki...

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...#Pad_Thickness

Note: When replacing this Control Module it is necessary to perform the Basic Settings Function Test (MVB 010) and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (MVB 020) first. This sets a Readiness Bit for each of the Basic Settings, Coding will not be accepted without having done this first! Make sure to adapt the Brake Pad Thickness after Coding the module.

0000?xx: Engine
1 = 3.0l MPI (Gasoline)
2 = 3.0l TDI (Diesel)
3 = 3.7l
4 = 4.0l
5 = 4.2l
6 = 6.0l

0000x?x: Transmission
1 = Multitronic (VL30)
2 = Automatic Transmission (AL420)
3 = Automatic Transmission (AL600)

0000xx?: Country
1 = Rest of World (RoW)
2 = USA/Canada
3 = Japan

Did you measure the thickenss of the pad -the metal backplate?
That is the figure in mm you have to adapt.
It is not that important it is accurate for operation - it just means the pad thickness warning would come on later or earlier if you are a mm or two out.

Cool, thanks for this, however, what number do I use for the first of the 3 digits as the 5.2L engine isn't listed?

Good question! I would guess at the 6.0 W12 as the S8 and W12 share the same brakes?

The coding shouldn't need changing from whatever it is from the factory, but you can view it and see if it makes sense with the chart on the rosstech website anyway. You just need to adapt the thickness - 12 is a typical value.

The rear calipers on the D3 are identical on every model, single piston with EPB, only the carrier changes to accommodate the different size discs. So I agree with Neil, use W12 coding. +++

Sweet, thanks peeps, will add to my list of stuff to do tomorrow - along with working out how to get the horn to beep when I lock it

Is the above same for ceramic brakes?? Do they share same calipers and pad thickness??

Three months ago when doing work on rear axle (dif oil, wheel bearings and pads) and since then I get quiet often brake pads warning.
But...even when I stopped while the warning light was still on the dash, VCDS showed no faults whatsoever for pads, no faults in ABS ECU at all.
So I'm thinking either wiring got damaged which is kind of not possible as the rear pads have no wear sensors, or adaptation of new pads hasn't been accepted??
I know that RS6 ceramic brakes use same rear pads what S8.
I can fairly accurately measure remaining pad on the car, but if there is no faults would you say pad warning is down to the adaptation??
It was quiet for some time, then it started coming on after some driving and sometimes as soon I start the engine.

Thanks guys

I had similar problems on my D3 - fixed in the end with a brand new EPB module +++

Interesting
What were your symptoms? Any faults on VCDS?
Cheers Paul
