Car Collecting Disease

3 Attachment(s)
I have 2 red D2's.

That's one too many, so Big Red is destined to go to another Car Collecting Disease sufferer (if sufferer is the right word) within the next month or so.

But then I thought that when Big Red had departed I should shop around for a cheap, SMALL run-around like an old A3 or a Golf, and put the S8 under a blanket just for "special days".

However, 24hrs ago I saw an advert for a car that I should have ignored.
But of course, I didn't and by 10am the next morning I was the owner of a 3rd Audi! :o

I like the older stuff. Nothing too new and soulless (IMHO).

It's a 1996 Audi A6 2.6SE Auto in Ragusa Metallic (very dark green).
It can best be described as immaculate with just a few touched-in stone-chips and 53500 miles on the clock. It drives like new. Looks like new inside. No missing pixels on the digital displays. No marks on the seat or wear on the bolster. Etc., etc.

It's a one-owner car with 23 Audi service/work invoices. Nothing has been done outside of Audi. Sadly the previous owner is no longer with us but when he was he did between 2-3000 miles a year and the car wanted for nothing. The history file is impressive. It was his pride and joy by the looks of things and when I saw it and took it for a test drive this morning I couldn't help but fall in love with it.
When I used to have one of my Audi 90's in the past, my best mate had virtually the same car as this with a manual gearbox. He says to this day that it was his most enjoyable car in his 55 years.
The big question for me now though, which I should have had the foresight to see was going to hit me instantly ....... is do I use it as my daily driver, enjoy the car as it should be enjoyed but lose its uniqueness as a well-preserved time-capsule that will surely increase in value?
Or keep it in storage for "special days", cherish it like it perhaps should be cherished and still get a cheap, SMALL run-around for my daily duties?

I'm a bit of a plonker for not thinking this question through before buying it. Heart ruling the head again  But I've no regrets.

Here are a few images for those that appreciate a well-looked-after old girl:

HiRes at this link

A video should anyone have time to waste.

A few I took myself today:

(there is a section waaayyyy down below for A6 / S6 C4 but as it only has one thread from 2013, I thought it best to put this post into general natter).

Splendid car and a lovely colour. +++
I worked out that Ragusa Green is identical to my Irish Green Pearl, but without the extra pearl effect.
(My rear numberplate surround is actually Ragusa Green and I cannot, in ANY LIGHT, see a difference between it and the original!)

That looks clean! Credit to the previous owner.

Looks absolutely mint! +++

You should register that with a few TV/Movie car hire agencies (such as this one or this one maybe?). You could get some interest if there's someone looking for a few cars for any productions set in the 90s.

Nice to know that it's gone to a good home at least after all those years that he clearly cherished and cared for it.

My approach would be to try and keep this up, seems to have worked well thus far +++

Those hi res pictures make it look like a toy :D I am amazed how clean the engine bay is for a 22 year old car.

Big coincidence, but when I lived in Higham Ferrers I had one of these, in that colour! Same 1996 (P Plate) A6 2.6SE but it was a manual with a dark interior. This was in 2003 and I did sell it locally too.

It was a short term run around and I only paid about £1400 from some guy down in Plymouth. Think the only think that went with it was the ECU, but it was a while ago!

Nice car, I liked mine, even though I didn't have it long.
