S8 D3 or 530d F11

So, after 2yrs of being absent from this forum...I find myself being drawn back in. I didn't bond with my D3 4.2 tdi - which I only owned for a short period.

Nonetheless, it's the thought of an S8 (D3) which is appealing to my petrolhead genes.

Thing is, I'm also hugely tempted with a 530d (F11). Much cheaper to run and maintain (probably), plenty fast enough - and more modern design.

Not really a question for anyone to answer - but more just a means of saying "hello" after some time away.

For now, I'll keep having a blast in my Golf R which is a great little car.

I also feel it appropriate to declare my deep love for the XC90....unexplainable, but very true!

NB - likely higher diesel depreciation.

Its worth bearing in mind that the resale value on any diesel is likely be a lot lower than the equivalent petrol from now on, as that's likely to offset the lower running costs of the BMW.

Have to agree, buying anything diesel currently is financial suicide IMHO, and apart from that it's awful stuff anyway+++

I sometimes drive my sisters 525d and i certainly wouldnt swap it for a d3 it feels very cheap, nasty and unrefined compared to my 8.

A BMW with a diesel still somehow feels wrong.
Tickle that D3 S8 itch while you can. You only need to keep it just as long as it makes you smile that idiotic smile you discover spreading over your physog, when the horizon grows alarmingly, accompanied by the intoxicating bellow of a naturally aspirated V10 petrol engine. Time's running out on these.....

This one appeals (a lot): http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...had=New&page=1

Mmmm...so tempting!

Looks good. Has B&O which is excellent if you like sounds and the mileage is surprisingly low, as is the price for that mileage

roberto 23rd May 2018 02:02 AM

That is a decent looking car and if you could haggle it down to 10k or less
it would be a good buy
service history is most important check thoroughly
these engines suffer at the 20,000 oil change gap
im tempted too

shame as i drove past peterborough monday
