rear view mirror map lights

Shortly after I bought my S8, I started to buy LED bulbs for the interior lights. When I was replacing the map lights that are in the rear view mirror, I accidentally broke the tiny metal tab on the bulb socket. Why this happened is because I wasn't sure how to properly replace the light bulb at the time so all I did was remove the plastic light cover at the bottom of the rear view mirror and used needle nose pliers to carefully pull out the incandescent bulb. Next I used the needle nose pliers to install the LED bulb and had troubles getting the bulb installed because the LED bulb base is thicker then the stock bulb which caused me to push the LED bulb into the light socket pretty hard and broke the tiny metal tab. I didn't want the light bulb socket rattling around so I had to take apart the rear view mirror to retrieve the bulb socket. I didn't find a part number so I can buy a replacement socket so I just reinstalled the rear view mirror without the light bulb sockets. A couple of months ago I bought a whole rear view mirror assembly for the bulb sockets. I took it apart and removed the sockets to use for my car.

I finally got around to installing the LED lights and took some pictures.

This is the rear view mirror map light socket and the tiny metal tab that I mentioned that I broke is the upper one that you can see in this picture.

These are the LED bulbs that I bought and are currently using as the base is small enough to fit into the socket correctly and the overall length isn't too long.

The top bulb is the original LED bulb that I bought which to fairly long and the base is thicker which caused me to accidentally breaking the metal tab. I'm glad this happened because the top LED bulb is way too bright to use.

This is the housing that the bulb socket mounted to

and that housing can be removed to make it easier to replace the light bulb by twisting the bulb socket. To remove this housing you need go remove the plastic light cover at the bottom of the rear view mirror and inserting your finger to push up the light housing and pull out towards you.

This is what happens when you don't have plastic removal tools. You mare up the plastic trim and break tabs.

Both LED bulbs install and working.

The extra rear view mirror that I bought was much easier to take apart when it's not in a car. I was able to pry off the face trim without marring it as bad as the one I have for my car. I'm currently cleaning it up and fixing one of the broken tabs before I install it.

Which LED bulb did you end up going with? I've been meaning to swap out those bulbs on mine, but haven't gotten to it yet.

These are the bulbs that I bought, unfortunately they are currently unavailable. Sorry.
