Elusive wipers

Anyone got good recommendations for wipers? I need some new ones but they seem to be quite elusive as a set for the A8

H-M3 12th February 2018 11:14 PM

Lucas ones are decent. Or Audi do set for around £40

Architex_mA8tey 13th February 2018 08:05 AM

If you go to Audi Dealerships then they have to do a supply and fit wiper blades swap service for a fixed fee, and its cheaper than just buying the wipers from Audi, but they change them for you too and probably give you a nice coffee and wash your car haha. . . . crazy but worth doing

Wiper Blades - £42.00

I wanted to use the fixed price offer but Norwich Audi couldn't source the wipers. The MOT advisory of "both front wipers smearing" disappeared on the retest after the rear caliper was sorted. I did ask why and the service guy said it was a different tester who thought they were fine...

I ended up getting a pair at TPS, but at £65'ish :(

Just for blades or is that with the arm as well?

snapdragon 13th February 2018 10:47 AM

That's the current price for blades? I once got them for £25 from TPS, next time round was £46 with trade discount!
Worrying that a dealer says they can't get them, maybe complain to Audi UK?
The originals are SWF - you can find them online - many brands/ebay/aliexpress but pretty much always LHD - they fit but would lift at speed instead of pressing down.

Related but not Audi - have you seen the current Mercedes wipers - they have had these for a few years now...

Just wiper blades. Crazy price I know. TPS did a tiny discount and said they are a superseded part but superseded by nothing. I'll have to dig out the old invoice.

Nice!

Buy just the rubbers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-Auto...MAAOSwwbdWOGoL

For me at least it does not matter if I buy genuine or cheap blades still need to change them at least twice a year so I don't see the point throwing money away for genuine every time.

Johnmed 13th February 2018 04:51 PM

Cost me £52 from Audi Warrington about 3 years ago, not long after I got the car. Still on the car now. There was no mention of the deal where they fit them at the time. I’ve since learned of it here.

Yes. See this thread. Free coffee and car wash and vac included (£33) fitted. Genuine parts...

Turbo Tony 13th February 2018 08:30 PM

I love the genuine Audi ones. I used to have Valeo blades on my car which were quite nice, until I tried the Audi ones on a courtesy car. I changed them immediately.

briang9 13th February 2018 09:48 PM

Probably get shot down for this but I have used Aldi wipers on the D2 for some years now and they are great, every time they pop up as specials I buy a few sets, usually change them every 18 months or so and TBH they have been perfect+++

Got BOSCH of ebay for the RS6, at least they come in BOSCH boxes, but who knows with the bay..do seem to work very well though+++

ainarssems 14th February 2018 09:03 AM

How do you make them last 18 months? I need to change mine at least twice a year, I tried genuine Audi hoping they will last better but no luck.

tc4332 14th February 2018 09:08 AM

I bought my current set in 2016 on fleebay for £1.99 free postage from Germany. They put the price up to £27 plus postage after mine arrived. Now I can.t find the site.

The wipers are still excellent after over 18 months use.

Do not use them dry, wash the rubber properly every time you wash the car. Use a decent alcoholic glass cleaner. Also use something like BarKeepers friend to decleanse the glass every month or use 00 wool wire. BKF use the powder formula on a microfiber cloth and then wash glass off.+++

ainarssems 14th February 2018 10:28 AM

Well I only wash the car about twice a year i.e the same number of times I change wiper rubber.

Crikey Ainars - you'll be telling me you're changing your car every year rather than cleaning it next!

HPsauce 14th February 2018 07:21 PM

Ainars is rather like me, mine only really gets cleaned when I get to a show with Aspect Valeting in operation!

Thanks chaps. Called Audi tetbury and they have offered wipers, healthcheck, wash, vac, coffee and use of their business lounge with WiFi for £42

Judging by the costs for wipers alone that makes for a good deal to me :)

jamoca 15th February 2018 11:07 AM

I use these, am on my second set which has done 20,000 miles including snow in the alps, rain on the Autobahn, and still going strong. They're probably not as sophisticated as Audi ones, but at the price you can afford to replace them 3 times as often!

I use the Lucas blades - LWDF24C - which are £9.50 each. Marcin recommended these some time ago and they're fine ...

Sounds good, but also and like a waste of your time sitting in a "business lounge" for a job that should take 2 minutes and is clearly a loss leader, be interesting to see what the healthcheck comes up with!

Thanks for that. Worth a punt. It's now £70 for fixed price blades, which is just stupid. £50 I could just about stomach, but £70 is too much.

Can't believe they have gone from £45 to £70! TPS price has also gone up from just over £60 to £80 before any discounts.

I was looking at a part for someone which was around £130-140 some months ago. I checked yesterday and it's nearly £400! Same part, probably the same stock sat on a shelf. Need to start investing in car parts lol
