4.2tdi Alternator Replacement
 

Hello Guys

Has anyone replaced an alternator on a 4.2tdi , i have heard some people say its an engine out and some say it can be done in situ but turbo has to be removed.

Can anyone give any guidance ?

Apologies that this is such a late reply. I had my alternator replaced a couple of years ago. The engine remained in, but the RHS (IIRC) turbo needed to be removed. The alternator is water cooled so lots of other stuff as well - about 11 hours labour I think. Don't expect much change from £2k.

I can confirm that the alternator was replaced and engine was not removed , still a big job but come in under 2K.
