For lightweight stuff like numberplate lights it's easier to just use the rubber ones inserted as you fix the item.

Being an amateur I think I'll stick with the rubber/well nut solution if I need to do any more. ;)

Finally managed to remove the old, spinning...

Used a nice cavity fixing that I had already with an expanding rubber plug that...
