Funny you said that, my Volvo reminded me yesterday and I like the way it does it.
When starting the car a reminder flashes up for just a few seconds on the dashboard - nice legible polite message...

Though thinking about it, when I cut out the (partially pre-cut) panel to fit my ski hatch the material was pretty thin and as soft as toffee!

The PDC on my Volvo comes on automatically at low speeds as you approach an obstacle. Still not quite sure what triggers it.
(The online manual implies that it is always active when speed is below...
