Well I've been doing some "research" and identified a source of what appears to be a genuine equivalent to the "polo" top mat clips and ordered some in beige. Not cheap though. :(

The mats I bought were in genuine Audi packaging and looked like they had been in stock for some time, but are the cheaper later FL material.
Pretty sure my PF overmats (late 98 car) were NOT domed,...
