Is there any type of visual inspection I could do in order to see if this a prob for me? If it's purely based on misfiring or lacklustre performance then don't think I'm affected.

Not really. Just lazy I suppose. I've come from BMWs, and I have to say their modern auto boxes (in my experience) are pretty intuitive. I just want to research possibilities.
