Remember the cabin filters are actually on the underside of the bonnet. They're pretty well protected there (and in a nice warm place!) so wouldn't normally get residual damp.

Coding could be:
1. Remote key not coded to car.
2. Car not coded for enabling remote locking or alarm or both....
