Its likely rattling because the flaps are broken, a new manifold is around 2k so you could use that as bargaining power but its also with some risk as the broken parts could go down into the valves....

last time I had it I took the carpets out.

not a bad job and left them in the sun to dry while the carpets were out it was a lot easier to dry the floor below.
