I would never be certain a new battery isn't faulty. I have seen many occassions where new batteries have been bad.
Either get it tested at your friendly local motor factors or test it yourself...

It's a live Linux OS that you boot the machine to (either CD or USB) and then has tools to recover data, and it's free :)

I must admit pump crossed my mind. I don't think i had any fault codes when mine went. Try running a feed direct (fused of course :) ) direct to the pump to see if you can hear it running.

I personally would leave the oil filler cap on while your working on the top of the engine. If you had dropped you coil pack bolt in there it might have made the job very complicated :)
