It's not as scary as you think really, any good VAG-skilled independent should be able to do it. The drain/filter/fill that is.

My local did both my old and new (current) ones but do also have the benefit of some quite good people including some who used to work at Fontain (a big independent in Iver). They also said up front that they would order from Audi and use genuine/correct parts.

My first one improved a lot, but was probably too late anyway. What came out was pretty mucky and the car didn't last much longer anyway, for various reasons.
The second one was done around 70,000 miles and what came out was clean. It has been fine for the well over 3 years since then apart from glitches that have been (finally!) tracked down to the F125 switch, now replaced with great results.
I'd seriously look at replacing the F125 switch at the same time, though that will add a fair bit to the labour (and about £150 parts).

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
