On OE arms usually the rubber wears out before the ball joint. Upper rear is the prime culprit, then lower rear. Upper front rarely have any obvious wear, lower front can take a lot of pounding before they show any signs. Usually the tie rod end ball joints will go before the control arms do.
Cheap aftermarket arms are a different matter entirely - the balljoints rattle on those if you sneeze too hard.
I think I read on Meyle's site that the balls in their HD range are larger than stock so should last even longer - more surface area = less pressure. Mine have been on for three years now but only done 15K so too early to tell what wears first.
