Thursday evening was consumed by the wiper mechanism which turned out to be utterly seized when I went to re-fit it. I dismantled it completely, cleaned everything up, re-greased it all and reassembled with a replacement motor.
All that remains of the starter junction box!
The bolts were crusty, but thankfully came out ok and cleaned up fine. Drilling these out is not fun.
This little stump is the remains of an aluminium stud which holds a steel P-clip with a steel nut, and therefore is usually seized and usually snaps off. Since the subframe is out it'll get replaced with a rivnut.
Flatten the stump with a carbide burr
M6 rivnut in its place. Its important to have a fixing here otherwise the movement of the engine tends to crack the starter junction box.
All ship shape again
Cleaned all the mould and legionella out of the screenwash bottle
Back in place
I'm still working on a design for the AC grommet. I can replicate the original almost perfectly, but splitting it to get the pipes in then ruins it so its likely I will make something thicker like the boot grommet. I guess it doesn' really matter if it looks the same as the original if it performs the same function.
