Its still slightly magic to me that these are the only gears in this thing. It gets 5 forward and 1 reverse gears just by engaging these planetary gear sets in different arrangements using the various clutch packs.
Ok. Lets try this again with one from the pallet
This is from my Avus FE. Having thought about which gearboxes I had available, I recall that this one worked but had a squeaky converter when it was in Bert's now-manual S8. So, I'm going to give it a service, and a different 'believed good' converter and see what happens.
Relatively clean in the pan. No shiny chunks.

This converter came from the S6 from which I had the mayonnaised engine. The gearbox had been 'refurbished' in that too, and it was working until the oil cooler split so I believe the converter is ok. We'll see though.
