The one installed in my A8L is the BlackVue DR400G-HD2 and I'm very pleased with it. Mounted just in front of my rear view mirror, and wired into the 'mains'. I'm sure that the later version has WiFi playback to a smartphone. I have to agree that the BlackVue cameras seem expensive though.
The data from the unit was invaluable when my car was involved in an accident last year as it records 3-way movement and GPS co-ordinates/speed etc. and was processed/reviewed by the Met. Police. Still didn't stop them from keeping my car for 2 months though.
