Default Could electric roads spark a green transport revolution?

Specially adapted trucks in Germany are being tested on electric roads.

Power is fed directly to the vehicles from overhead power cables.

It's costly - but could cut carbon emissions.

They talk about this like it's a new idea. It seems to me we've gone full-circle.

Trolleybus anyone?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolleybus

Personally I think trolleybuses are a much better solution than trams. Trams are a stupid idea. Manchester spent millions digging up roads and laying tracks to bring back trams. And whenever they need to extend a route, they disrupt local traffic and spend millions more to lay new tracks. And when there's an accident or a road closure that affects a section of track, the whole tram network can be disrupted because trams obviously can't take a diversion. Trolleybuses with more overhead lines would've been less expensive to implement and much more flexible, especially if the trolleybuses had been hybrids or used batteries to enable them to drive without overhead lines for short distances.
