I have wondered about this myself, but never got any further. There used to be a few bespoke spring manufacturers in Sheffield who might be able to rework them if they are still around.
Its worth noting that Eibach springs for the A8 are pretty much equivalent to the S8 springs. Mark is running them on his FE and I think was quite happy with them.
