The filler tube (coming from the filler cap) runs along the inside top of the tank down the centre. It ensures that any fuel poured into the tank goes directly into the fuel bowl where the pump sits - nice feature!
Anyway, the receptacle inside the tank that the fuel pump assembly mates to (the cream plastic assembly that all the in-tank hoses attach to) has a large hook on top of it.
The hook hooks over the filler tube and hangs the assembly up above the saddle of the tank.
