I ordered a direct replacement new
VDO pump, and what arrived was a 'Continental' brand pump which I then found out to be part of the same company. The only difference with what it was replacing was that the new pump body did not come with the band of rubberized foam that's on the original - that keeps it wedged into the water tank crevice where it sits, and I found it impossible to remove this padding from the old pump without ripping it to pieces. I contemplated swapping over the the pump bodies but in the end just wrapped lots of masking tape around the new pump and got it to sit into it's place in the side of the water tank without it moving about. I filled the system and checked for leaks - all good
