Sorry to hear about the latch rod, do you have a ski hatch?
There's also a method documented somewhere of cutting through behind the numberplate to get at the latch when the rod is detached.

It still operates without the plastic part, taped the micro switch so light stay off and earning doesn't come up. Already found second hand from our sponsors.
Don't have ski hatch but wouldn't work either way because of the lpg tank. Both of my rear lights are cracked so might just smash them up to open it
