I've found myself well and truly in this pickle too. Hence why my D2's sitting weeping PS fluid on Brian's driveway.

My parts guy at Audi confirmed today that the pipes we need are listed as obsolete and 100% unavailable. He even checked all dealerships to see if anyone had them in stock. No joy.

I'm specifically referring to these pipes 4D2422893D & 4D2422893M. I am 'fortunate' enough to have replaced the 891C pipe a couple of years back.

I happen to have a spare rack, complete with pipes, from a 1999 FL car I broke for parts a couple of years ago. The unions are badly corroded but not split. However, they don't have the looped section at the column end I believe the later racks and pipes all have. I haven't taken the pipes off my MY2000 yet but I can see the looped sections are there. And I can't see any parts diagram not showing the looped section.

I spoke to a guy today at Geyer Plant www.geyerplant.com today and he sounded very non-plussed about the whole thing and said to just bring it over and he was sure they'd be able to make the pipes up.

Couple of questions for everyone:
  • Should I give them the pipes from the earlier car or the later car? Or both?
  • How many people would be interested in a set if there was a decent discount for a group purchase?

@MikkiJayne - do you have the part number or year of that S6? Or a link to the ETKA image? I could ask my guy at Audi to see if it's available. Seems he can search for actual stock whereas TPS don't appear to be able from what you've said.

Cheers, Gregor
