The perceived value of the car is largely irrelevant if it holds a personal value to me.
You don't make money from cars, so basing repair costs on what the car is worth doesn't make a lot of sense if you want to maintain your car in good condition.
So ask yourself some questions:
Do you like your car?
Have you looked after it?
If you don't own this car, what will you own?
How much will you spend to get there?
Will that car depreciate in value or have its own large expenses?
Will it be step up, or a step down?
Do you particularly want some other car more than the one you have? And can you afford to get it?

I run a very simple philosophy with cars:

Do I like it? (The answer is usually yes as I don't tend to buy cars I don't want ;-))

Am I invested in it? (This usually means that I've put time and effort into maintaining and improving it, but can also be as simple as having owned it a while and become associated with it)

If the answer to both is yes, then the question becomes:
Can I afford or otherwise get hold of the cash needed for the repair?

I tend not to factor the market value of the car into its expenses - it costs money to run cars, I accept that.
