Though given the way the switch operates, with the released brake pedal arm forcing the spindle of the switch in to disconnect the brake light circuit, it's probably something slightly more complex than contacts sticking.
I'm reluctant to swap the switch in winter weather, easy though that may be in isolation. I don't have a garage/workshop to work in and there's a lot of extra equipment and wiring in and behind the drivers knee cubbyhole and panel that makes removing it non-trivial.
And some of that isn't working properly so if I do go in there I'll be committed to other jobs too: Xcarlink, Bluetooth, DVB-T tuner, receiver for reversing camera radio signal and relays to manage all that without draining the battery.

e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
