Ive downloaded the 4G speed test app (tho i didn't get to try out it out today) and identified the master socket (Openreach Master Socket 5C). The guy next door uses an EE 4G router to provide connectivity and seems to think its good enough for HD netflix. The are 7 network cables (un-terminated) so it looks like an 8 port switch is sufficient.
The trouble with cabinet P8 is that its across the fields and a torrential burn (stream) and not on a direct road route! However, I am now much better placed to understand the issues and find a way ahead. Many thanks all.
