The VIN descriptions in ETKA have always confused me, but since my car appears to have the 10-pin connector, does the descriptions shown sort of translate to 'if your VIN is greater than 4D-1-000 001 then you need the 10-pin, but if it's less than 4B-Y-020 000 then you need the 8-pin'.

The 9 and the N in your VIN are the two '-' in Etka's numbers so yours translates to 4D-2-002072 (effectively a 2002 model year) ergo the 10-pin switch

The change to the 10-pin switch is basically the start of the 2001 model year, but since UK registrations don't correlate directly to Audi's model year (which is August when they come back from their summer holidays) it can be a bit confusing.
